Tyn Llwyfan Farm is situated at the foothills of the Carneddau Range- the most northern part of Snowdonia National Park (Eryri).
Situated above the quarry village of Llanfairfechan and overlooking the beautiful views of the North Wales coast, the farm is situated just below a Celtic hill fort called “Dinas”. Sheep graze amongst Celtic cairns and burial mounds while the protected, and well-loved Carneddau Mountain Ponies; a rare native breed, roam the wild on the wonderful Carneddau Mountains.
Astonishingly the farmstead site has been archaeologically proved to be the first axe “factory” in the world, dating back to 6000 BC.
Tyn Llwyfan is steeped in history. The Jones family have farmed the land for over 370 years. Gareth is outspoken and passionate about his livelihood, seeking to educate about sustainable and seasonal food, farming its heritage and time-honoured traditions. He is also a best-selling author, a regular contributor on social media and is known as the “tweeting farmer”. He features on mainstream television including BBC Countryfile, Escape to the Country, Come Dine with me, Snowdonia 1890, Bafta nominated The Hill Farm and Netflix ‘s Jack Whitehall- “Travels with my Father.”

Choose from our immersive RhiGar Tours: a cultural and archaeological tour to the world’s first axe “factory”, a Carneddau Mountain Pony mountain tour with beautiful scenery and photographic opportunities, and a bespoke “gusto” experience tasting local Welsh wines and cheeses. Each visit can include a live sheepdog demonstration with Gareth Wyn Jones and Rhian, plus optional live harp accompaniment.

Gareth, husband to Rhian and father to their three children, has lived all his life on the farm at Tyn Llwyfan. Gareth is a foodie at heart and he loves nothing more than shooting, fishing or hunting to cook it for his family. He is also a keen vegetable grower and has many tips for growing your own.

Singer / songwriter, Rhian is married to Gareth and mother to their three children Sior, Rolant and Mari. Rhian loves art, painting sketching and regularly practises Yoga. She loves the outdoors, gardening and cooking.

Sior is our eldest son, loves the outdoors and the freedom of living on a farm. He is a keen traveller, cyclist and has an entrepreneurial spirit. He has trained a wonderful sheepdog, Spot, a very eager and strong valuable addition, to our group of working dogs.

"Watching my granddaughter Molly help "The Hill Farmer" Gareth Wyn Jones herd sheep with his sheep dog in Wales. This was an experience Molly will never forget. I remembered to video the experience, as this was a once-in-a-lifetime thrill for Molly, who loves all animals. We each bought Mr. Jones's book and wonder how to watch his TV show from the States..."
